More Swimming
Room 11 & 12 students that are already confident swimmers, and have completed a water safety course get to learn either snorkelling, kayaking or diving. Here are a few pictures of today's swimming lessons.

Swimming at Kilbirnie
Every Tuesday morning in Term 1 we have swimming lessons at the Kilbirnie Aquatic Centre. Students that are already confident swimmers get to do Water Safety, Kayaking, Snorkelling or Diving. Here's a picture of Ben K leading an impromptu aquarobics session!

Picnic!
We had a great time building sand sculptures, swimming and eating ice-blocks at the annual school picnic in Eastbourne on Friday.

Reading Challenges for Term 1
To encourage students to read frequently and widely, we set a range of reading challenges each term. The challenges for Term 1 are:
10 Book Challenge: Read 10 books in one term.
20 Book Challenge: Read 20 books in one term.
Ye Olde Booke Challenge: Read a book written before 1970.
YA Challenge: Read 2 books from the Young Adult section of the school library.
Sport Challenge: Read a book that includes sport in a significant way.
NZ Challenge: Read a book by a NZ author.
Colour Challenge: Read a book with a colour in the title.
Friend Challenge: Read 2 books recommended by friends.
In addition, there are several year-long challenges:
Country Challenge: Read 10 books that are each set in a different country.
10 Category Challenge: Read a book from 10 different categories on the suggestion list.
16 Category Challenge: Read a book from 16 different categories on the suggestion list.
Date Challenge: Read a book from each of these date periods:
before 1900, 1900 - 1939, 1940 - 49, 1950 - 59, 1960 - 69, 1970 - 79, 1980 - 89, 1990 - 99, 2000 - 2009, 2010 - 2014.
Here is the book suggestion list.
All of the challenges are optional apart from the 10 book challenge - all students are expected to read an average-sized book (for them) each week. Longer books can count for 2 weeks if necessary,.
