Weekly Tasks - Term 3, Week 11
Hi everyone - here are the tasks for the last week of Term 3. We've got a pretty busy week with the earthquake drill, the show, and making lolly leis for the school fair, so there aren't too many tasks. Make sure you do all of them to a very high standard.

My poem
Wellington
Wellington is the city I live
Lots of green grasses and leaves
It’s very cold and windy
But I don’t mind
I love it that way
People are kind and friendly
Sweet as my favourite chocolate
I am always looking forward to a sunny day
So I can go out and play
Sleeping in a giant freezer
Wearing a billion blankets
Before in the middle of the night
I am awaken by the sound of the wind hitting the glass of my window pane
But now it’s just like music
Although I have gotten used to the sound of the wind
I still can’t stand the freezing wind crashing into me
My poem is about Wellington. I choose to do my poem on Wellington because it's where I live and it is the only other country that i've been in apart from the Philippines. I wrote how it was nothing like Philippines at start but then i started to get use to it. I choose to do it on Wellington because i really like it here and its where i met my best friends.

3D Artwork
This piece of 3D artwork was created using some pencils. Firstly I drew twelve straight lines that are diagonal. Secondly I drew the curves inside the columns that I had drawn. Thirdly I chose two colours that that went well with each other and coloured in the curves. Lastly I shaded in-between the columns to give them a 3D affect.
Work that I am proud of
This is the work I am proud of, it is our writing task for week 10. We had to write an essay on a song called 'I will not let you down', type it up onto the computer in a size 12 font (which is quite small) and it had to be more than a page. Mine was about one page and a bit less than a half, but it may not look like it on this post. Enjoy.
I will not let
you down
By Sean Donnelly/Don McGlashan
‘I will not let you down’ was written by Sean Donnelly and sung by Don
McGlashan. It contains many different ideas and images that could be
interpreted in different ways, I will discuss both the meaning and the language
features.
The main idea of the song is that
someone is trying to get back to their girlfriend. He wants her to know that he
regrets the mistakes that he made in their relationship and he wants her to
believe it won’t happen again this can be seen when the song says ‘So I row to
your isle all that distance reconciled should my arms and shoulders fail put my
trust in wind and sail’ this also shows that he will do everything he can to
try to get to her even if it drains the energy out of him.
The song has lots of religious
imagery, for example ‘carried my cross’, ‘temple’, ‘altar’.
The songwriter may
have been trying to convey the idea that the singer of the song wants to be
back with who he is trying to get to so badly that he asks God to help him
achieve what he is trying to do.
There are many language features in
this song like rhyme, for example ‘fail’, ‘sail’, ‘bind’, ‘mind’, ‘you’ and
‘true’. For the chorus the main line is ‘I will not let you down’ the
songwriter was using repetition to emphasize the point that he wouldn’t let her
down. Similes were also used in the song like ‘There’s a heart here that beats
like a drum’ this gives us the idea that he was nervous that he wouldn’t get to
his destination or that he was nervous about getting there and seeing her
again. This song also contains metaphors for example ‘an ocean of swallowed
pride’ which conveys the idea of that the singer of the song is swallowing his pride and asking the person
he is singing to for forgiveness.
‘I will not let you down’ is a
powerful song written by Sean Donnelly that can touch your heart with many
possible and deep meanings. The many language features in the song all mean
something important and gives the song lots of clues to what the singer is thinking.
It contains and gives you a feeling of sadness and regret throughout the song,
but it also has a message of love, hope and belief.

Junah's art
Art
This art work is done with a paint brush, sponge and printing. My focus was on the background more the printing. It is an autumn tree with a picture which is a bird flying over the tree. First I colored the sky I blue. Some bites darker and some bites lighter. Then I started painting the tree in autumn color. I went over the blue so the color was darker at the end of the tree so it looked weird. So I mixed a bit of blue and brown in some bits. Then I let the paint dry then I did the branches. While the paint was drying I drew a bird on a piece of paper. Then I got a thick cardboard and went over the bird so you could see the lines clearly. I chose black ink for my bird because it looks very attractive the blue and red. I rolled over the picture with the ink and placed it on the picture. Then I placed a clean piece of paper over the top. I carefully rolled over the paper with a clean roller.
Then I took off everything and now there is a printing of a bird.

Panama
The Republic of Panama is the most southern country of Central America. The capital of Panama is Panama City which is situated on the coast of the country. Panama was settled by Spain in the 16th century and was soon partnered with many of the surrounding countries. But the countries all split up. With only panama and Columbia remaining together… but not for long.
Separation from Spain
For the first 80 years after becoming part of Spain Panama was a voluntary department of Columbia. But luckily during the “thousand days of war” between 1899 and 1902 America decided to help out Panama. And by November 1903 they declared independence from Columbia.
The Canal
The famous Panama canal was made between panama and Columbia finally confirming their separation. It was built by the U.S army. An agreement was signed by the U.S and Panama before the end of the 20th century saying that the canal was officially owned by panama
