So today we smashed up the moon and started making something way cooler which you should be able to figure out if you look closely...

Weekly Tasks - Term 3, Week 7

Here are this week's tasks. It's basically art 24/7.  Term 3, Week 7.

Art

We got lots more art done today, including starting a couple of big projects - a chicken wire & papier mache astronaut and an alien planetscape that all 3 Kauri classes are working on.

NIWA Science Fair Results

Congratulations to Maeghan Casey and Sarah Scott who won prizes at the NIWA Wellington Science Fair this week.

Maeghan won 1st place overall in Class 1 (Year 7) for her project about insulation: 'Woolly Jumpers: for people; sheep and houses!'

Sarah won the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching prize for her project 'Do pH levels in the water affect pH levels on the eel's skin?'

Well done to you both!

Regional Sportsfest

Yesterday all the Yr 7 & 8 students took part in the first Wellington Regional Sportsfest. St Benedict's participated in basketball, dodgeball, netball, badminton, football and table tennis. The whole day went very well and everyone had a good time. Here are a few pics of the mixed dodgeball team. (If anyone has photos of any other sports - send them to me!)

So our plans to make a papier mache moon were hilariously disastrous today. But I'm sure it will all miraculously come together tomorrow!

Now we are having second thoughts about the moon and will probably turn it into something else. 

Weekly Tasks - Term 3, Week 6

Week 6 already! And the art exhibition is in Week 8! You will have to do a fair bit of task work at home so we can spend lots of school time on art during the next couple of weeks.

Here is the task sheet for Term 3, Week 6.  Remember to photocopy some info from the National Library books if you haven't already.

Also remember it's the Regional Sportfest on Wednesday so wear your sports gear and bring a big lunch, drink, warm stuff etc.

Space Race Art

Last week we learned a bit about the Space Race between the USA and the USSR (CCCP). We are working on creating a collaborative artwork with a Space Race theme. Everyone is painting their own picture which will then combine into awesomeness. Hopefully.
