Sand & Salt

Last week as part of our Chemistry unit, students were challenged to come up with a method to separate a mixture of sand and salt. Most groups managed to figure out that they could add water to dissolve the salt, separate off the sand by draining with filter paper, then boil the water to leave the salt residue.

Wait - can we boil the water?!
